N70,000 WAGE AWARD: NIGERIAN UNION OF PENSIONERS DEMANDS INCULSION

The Nigerian Union of Pensioners, NUP, has called for their inclusion in the recently approved N70,000 monthly transport allowance for Nigerian workers in the public service.

The retirees who made the appeal at a press briefing in Abuja said pensionwere too should be considered vulnerable persons in the society as many with health challenges and with no other income apart from their pensions which they struggle to cope with current economic realities.

While appreciating the Federal Government for recognizing the importance of improving the welfare of serving workers, the union decries why pensioners who also devoted their productive years to service before retirement were not considered during the negotiation.

NUP also raised concern over non implementation of the N25,000 monthly palliative approved by the Federal Government in October 2023 to the 15 million households and vulnerable persons of which the pensioners where included.
