Abia Government Berates NDC Gubernatorial Candidate Ogah Over Claims of Supporting Atiku The Abia State Government has dismissed allegations by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) gubernatorial candidate in the state, Etugo Ogah, that it is backing Atiku Abubakar and Chibuike Amaechi of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 presidential election. Ogah made the claim while addressing members of his party recently. He alleged that the Abia State Government is neither supporting President Bola Tinubu nor Peter Obi, but is instead supporting Atiku Abubakar and Amaechi. “The present government of Abia, they are not supporting Tinubu or Peter Obi, they are supporting Atiku and Amaechi and I want to reveal it to you people,” Ogah was quoted as saying. NIGERIAN ARMY - ARCHERY FEDERATIONS DEEPEN PARTNERSHIP FOR SPORTS EXCELLENCE

The Nigerian Army is deepening partnership with World Archery Africa and the Nigeria Archery Federation (NAFED) to advance sports development, strengthen civil-military relations and support national prestige through high-level sporting excellence. The collaboration also seeks to enhance physical readiness, technical capacity and Nigeria’s hosting capability for major continental competitions.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, stated this on Thursday, 8 October 2026, while receiving a joint delegation from World Archery Africa and NAFED, led by NAFED President Mr. Mohammed Baba Abdullahi, at Army Headquarters, Abuja. He noted that archery aligns with core military principles of focus, marksmanship and discipline, while directing the Chief of Training to commence planning for the proposed African Indoor Archery Championship at the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery facility.

In his remarks, Mr. Mohammed Baba Abdullahi commended the Nigerian Army for constructing Africa’s first dedicated standard archery pitch within a military formation and noted that military archers recently secured all of Nigeria’s medals at the African Championship. World Archery Africa President Mr. Amine similarly praised the Army’s sponsorship, facilities and hospitality, while requesting support to host Africa’s inaugural Indoor Archery Championship, describing the institutional partnership as a model for sports development across the continent.
