ONDO STATE GOVERNMENT ORDERS FUMIGATION OF NAF AIRCRAFT CRASH SITE, DISTRIBUTES HEALTH KITS. (PHOTO).
That's Fela Anikulapo-Kuti in the middle, and that's me in the red shorts — the girl in the white shirt in front.
The others are some of our beautiful dancers. In this photo, I was the only backup singer present.
Many don't know, but Fela's concerts were never just music. They were family. The women you see around him were called his Queens — dancers, singers, caretakers, collaborators. They echoed his words, held the harmony, brought the fire to the stage, and stood with him through everything.
To have been one of those voices — to stand beside him and sing — it shaped who I am.
The energy, the discipline, the truth in his music... it never left me.
I'm posting this today with so much gratitude. For the music, for the sisterhood, for the history we made together.
Rest in power, Fela.
Oma.
