 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity. Rapper Rick Ross was arrested early Thursday, October 1, 2026 in Miami Beach on domestic violence-related charges. He was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 6:10 a.m. on one felony count of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanor count of battery, both classified as domestic violence. Bond was set at $5,000 to $6,000 total, and he pleaded not guilty during a Zoom bond hearing.


 The charges stem from allegations by ex-girlfriend Jazzma Kendrick about an incident on August 28 at Ross's Star Island home. Kendrick told police she was awakened over an Instagram photo, and alleged Ross slapped her, struck her chest, grabbed her ponytail, slammed her against a wall and choked her to the point she could not breathe. She posted photos of a busted lip on Instagram Stories on September 26 and filed a police report on September 29. Judge Mindy Glazer issued a stay-away order barring contact with Kendrick and set an arraignment for October 22 . Ross's attorneys Steve Sadow and Bradley Horenstein said he is "being wrongfully accused by an ex-girlfriend whose true motivations are unclear and noted the report was filed about a month after the alleged incident.
