 PRESS RELEASE NAF MOURNS 25 LIVES LOST IN NAF 931 AIRCRAFT ACCIDENT The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has expressed profound condolences to the families of the personnel and passengers who lost their lives following the accident involving Nigerian Air Force (NAF) ATR 42 aircraft, NAF 931, in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State. The CAS described the incident as a deeply painful moment for the Nigerian Air Force and the nation, expressing heartfelt sympathies to the families, loved ones and colleagues of those who lost their lives. He assured the bereaved families of the Service’s full support during this difficult period. NAF 931 had 25 persons on board, comprising five crew members and 20 passengers. The aircraft was on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when the accident occurred.  WAEC Appoints Suleiman Kum as New Head of Nigeria National Office


The West African Examinations Council has officially announced the appointment of Suleiman Kum as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office. The 56-year-old administrative expert succeeds Dr. Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure ended on October 1, 2026. Dr. Dangut has since stepped into a higher role, assuming office as the global Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of WAEC.


Before taking on his new role, Kum served as the Deputy Registrar in the Head of Nigeria National Office division and was the council's Senior Deputy Registrar for Test Administration until the end of August.


A Legacy of Innovation and Technological Advancement


In a statement issued on Sunday, Moyosola Adesina, the Head of Public Affairs for WAEC Nigeria, described Kum as a seasoned test developer, administrator, and executive. Since joining the council on July 17, 1998, as an Assistant Registrar II, Kum has consistently driven administrative and technological reforms.


Among his notable achievements, Kum pioneered the integration of Variable Data Printing and enhanced code-security features in security printing. He also modernized the organization's workforce management by replacing council-wide attendance systems with facial-recognition biometric devices. Furthermore, Kum led the seamless implementation of Achievement Tests using Computer-Based Examination platforms and successfully established the Gusau branch as a key Custodial Centre.


Academic Background and Diverse Leadership Experience


Hailing from Plateau State, Kum holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria. He is currently advancing his academic qualifications by pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning at the same institution.


Over his long career, Kum has accumulated vast experience in examination security, test development, and branch administration. He has served the examination body in various critical roles across the country, including:


• Assistant Registrar and Head of Exams Security in Awka, Yola, and Makurdi

• Branch Controller in Gusau and Kano

• Deputy Registrar and Head of the Security Printing Department

• Zonal Coordinator for Port Harcourt and Ikeja

• Director of Administration

The council emphasized that Kum's career is marked by deep integrity, innovation, and a strong commitment to service, earning him numerous institutional accolades and awards throughout his decades of service.
