Paris Jackson is taking a legal step to secure a major financial transfer from her late father Michael Jackson’s estate, asking a Los Angeles judge to order the release of $600 million into a family trust meant for her and her two brothers.
According to court documents, Paris, 28, argues that more than 17 years after the King of Pop’s death in 2009, the family trust established to benefit his three children remains unfunded, despite the estate reportedly generating billions of dollars through music deals, business transactions and property sales.
The trust was created for Prince, Paris and their younger brother Bigi. Under its terms, the siblings were expected to begin receiving income from their respective shares at 21, with further distributions at 30, 35 and 40.
Paris believes about $600 million is currently available for distribution and wants the court to order the estate to transfer that amount, or whatever sum the judge considers appropriate.
However, Michael Jackson’s estate has pushed back against her claims, insisting that more than $200 million has already been distributed for the children’s benefit. The estate also says outstanding legal issues, including a tax dispute with the IRS involving hundreds of millions of dollars, must be resolved before the trusts can be fully funded.
Paris’ spokesperson has disputed the estate’s response, maintaining that she had to take legal action after years of delays.
The court is expected to hear her request on December 4.
