The sudden disappearance of Leo, 73, and Katherine Lindeman, 74, on September 16th, 2026, has left authorities seeking answers. The recent discovery of the Lindeman's bodies on a neighbor's property has revealed their heartbreaking fate, but also raises brand new questions.
The couple went missing with their small white dog and left zero evidence into the circumstances.
On September 15th, Katherine attended a weekly dinner date alone because Leo was waiting for an electrician to look at an electrical issue. A neighbor swung by their house to return dishes the couple owned on the 16th and stated they appeared to not be at home. He noticed the home had open windows, which was typical for ventilation. It also had an open door. He did not enter the home.
Katherine was confirmed to have had a telephone conversation with a local gunshop owner on September 16th. The call was to schedule an appointment to exchange a pistol the following day, the 17th. Katherine never made it to that appointment.
On September 24th, 2026, the family friend went to their home to check on the couple. He noticed the dishes left behind, still sitting there. Katherine had missed a weekly standing dinner date so he wanted to check in. He noticed the heavy door was still open but that wasn't unusual. They used the screen door to ventilate.
When he made entry into the home there was no sign of a crime or struggle. Both of the couple's vehicles were in the drive, and their keys and phones were left behind.
An extensive investigation into their disappearance and searches for the Lindeman's was carried out in the intervening months. 20 search dog teams were utilized to extensively search the Lindeman's property and all surrounding properties.
However, despite multiple searches, authorities failed to determine their fate or locate the couple.
The devastating discovery was made today, November 1st, when an individual who is not law enforcement or a searcher accidentally discovered the couple, deceased, just 400 to 500 yards from their property and home.
The exact manner and circumstances surrounding their passing have not been determined at this time.
Of note, the couple had a transfer-upon-death deed they completed and made official in July 2026.
The couple has children from previous marriages but were estranged. The couple signed a "transfer-on-death" deed for their rural property. The deed stated that upon their deaths, ownership of the property would immediately transfer to a local couple whom the Lindeman couple had met in 2021, 5 years ago.
Their beloved pup has still not been located. Authorizes are concerned about what happened to the couple's dog. If you spot Itty Bitty or have any information regarding her whereabouts, please contact the McDonald County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center immediately at 417-223-4318.
