 A Mother's Day Nightmare in Princeton, Illinois. A 3-year-old boy was struck by gunfire as police burst into a barricaded room, ending a frightening hostage situation. Multiple agencies responded to the Hummingbird Mobile Home Park in Princeton, Illinois, on Sunday, May 10th at 2:42 a.m. The initial call went out as a domestic disturbance but officers discovered much worse.  42-year-old, Anthony Rodriguez, had barricaded himself in a room armed with a knife. Anthony had taken several people as hostages, including Aurora Almanza and her 3-year-old son.  Multiple agencies were on the scene, including the Bureau County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police and  the Princeton Police Department.  Authorities attempted to negotiate but ultimately rushed the room when they heard screaming coming from inside.  Officials have reported that officers fired shots as they entered the room. Stakeholders Call For Equity, Justice And Strategic Balance, Demand Zoning Of Zangon Kataf/Jaba House Of Representatives Seat To Zangon Kataf  Stakeholders across the Zangon Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency in Kaduna State have renewed calls for what they describe as equity, fairness, and strategic political balance in the rotation of the area’s seat in the House of Representatives. Uba Sani Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has said the state is in a better condition today than when he assumed office, despite inheriting serious security issues, infrastructure deficits, and social challenges that needed urgent action. The governor made this known during a workshop for senior government officials organised by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) as part of the ongoing Nigeria Public Relations Week 2026 in Kaduna. SECURITY CHALLENGES:   CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF OLUYEDE IN ZAMFARA ON OPERATIONAL VISIT The Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, in Zamfara on an operational visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force, Operation Fansa Yamma as part of an operational visit aimed at strengthening ongoing military efforts to address security challenges in the region. On arrival at the Command Headquarters, the CDS was received by senior military commanders and top officers of the operation. He was subsequently accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour. The operational visit underscores  the Defence Headquarters' commitment to boosting troop morale and consolidating gains in the fight against banditry and other security threats. The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for the Chief of Defence Staff to assess ongoing operations, interact with troops, and review strategies aimed at enhancing security across Zamfara State and the wider North-West.  Residents of Owelle-Ebo Community in Onitsha Lament Prolonged Power Outage By Amaechina Anthonia Chinyere Residents of Owelle-Ebo community in Inland Town, Onitsha, have expressed concern over the persistent lack of public electricity supply in the area. Some residents who spoke with our correspondent said the community has experienced irregular power supply for over two weeks, with electricity coming briefly at intervals before going off again. Mr. Chike Anali described the situation as unacceptable, saying residents have continued to cope only by the grace of God. He accused the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) of insensitivity, alleging that electricity bills are still issued despite poor supply. Also speaking, Mrs. Theresa Oruche said the power distribution company has failed in its responsibility and called for the firm to be handed over to a more capable operator that can provide efficient service.  AIRLINE OPERATORS OF NIGERIA SUSPENDS PLANNED NATIONWIDE SHUTDOWN Airlines operators have suspended a planned nationwide shutdown of flight operations over what they described as crippling fuel prices. The suspension is, as a result, the government appeal to halt the action pending talks The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON)  had warned  it would halt services from Monday, April 20, saying surging jet fuel costs has made operations unsustainable.
