Anambra Government Reaffirms Mega City Drive, Demolishes Scores of Illegal Structures By Ruth Orji The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing regeneration drive and restoration of sanity across the state through enforcement exercises and demolition of illegal structures statewide. The exercise was led by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu, on July 8, in line with the Physical Planning Law of Anambra State. Stating that it is no longer business as usual, the commissioner urged residents to take every notice received from the ministry seriously and comply promptly with planning regulations henceforth. He, however, said several eviction notices had been served but were taken with a pinch of salt, adding that demolitions followed because structures defaced the environment or obstructed pedestrian walkways. Yesterday wednesday,two persons suspected to be armed robbers who attempted to rob Eco bank branch by Agip junction along Ikwerre road in Port Harcourt,Rivers state were shot dead by policemen.The Rivers police command confirmed the shooting incident but did not give details,but eye witnesses said the driver of the vehicle that conveyed the suspected robbers managed to escape when the gang came under fire power from the policemen who got intelligence report of the suspected gang of robbers.Eye witnesses said ''All i heard was gunshots,the drive of the red car and the persons killed ran towards the school {Government Girls School,Rumueme} and escaped,one of them was shot dead instantly while another one who tried to escape was also shot dead''.
