  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. I WAS UNDER SPELL, SAYS BENUE DEACON WHO BEAT STEP-SISTER TO STUPOR

A deacon with one of the churches in Benue State, Kelvin Iorfa has blamed a “spiritual attack” for the physical assault he inflicted on a woman recently.

Recall that Iorfa was recently captured in a viral video manhandling a lady.

He was seen in the video flogging the lady said to be his younger sister with a belt. The young lady later fainted in the video.

The video sparked wide condemnation with many calling for his arrest.

Subsequently, Iorfa was apprehended by men of the Benue State Police Command.

Following his arrest, he reportedly pleaded that he was under a “spiritual attack” which rendered him unable to know what he was doing.

He claimed he was “surprised” seeing himself in the video that has gone viral, beating his younger sister.

The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, confirmed his arrest today Tuesday morning.

She, however, said he is yet to be interrogated.

“Yes, that is true [he has been arrested]. But for the claims about what he said, I haven’t spoken with him. When I speak with him, I will get back to you,” the PPRO said.

He is very popular in Makurdi, his latest victim is his step sister  who  was telling him to stop beating his wife, luckily the wife has escaped his violence and now it is his sister. Please we need FIDA Markurdi and all human rights organisation in Makurdi to help. They say the wife and sister have been too afraid of  him to report to the authorities.  Let us not wait until another death occurs before we swing into action.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
