 Saraki Slams Okowa’s Defection to APC, Urges PDP to Rebuild as Strong Opposition Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has expressed shock and disappointment over the defection of Ifeanyi Okowa, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2023 vice-presidential candidate and former Delta State governor, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Okowa, alongside current Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, and other top state officials, switched allegiance to the APC on Monday, a move Saraki described as “unbecoming and unprecedented.” In a statement, Saraki, a former Kwara State governor, criticized Okowa’s defection, arguing that it reflects a “collapse of leadership values” and should not be justified by claims of external pressure. “It is simply a sign of how low we have sunk as a polity,” he said, emphasizing the need to strengthen institutions over individuals. GUNMEN KILLED BOLT DRIVER IN RIVERS STATE. (PHOTO).




Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have k!lled an e-hailing driver identified as Raphael Toby in Rumuibiakani, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.


The victim’s younger brother, Donald Toby, confirmed the incident in a Facebook post on Thursday, May 18, 2023. 


Donald said his brother was shot dead on Tuesday, adding that the assailants made away with the deceased's vehicle and other personal belongings after k!lling him.


Sharing pictures of the deceased's vehicle, he called on anyone with information to contact him. He also appealed to the security agencies to track down the killers and make them face the law.


Reacting to the murder, the Chairman, Rivers State Civil Society Organization, Enefaa Georgewill advised all relevant regulators in the country to ensure that e-hailing drivers and their customers are protected during all rides.


Georgewill stressed the need for e-hailing companies to link the bank account of customers to their apps as a way of guaranteeing safety and called for an investigation into the incident.
