Actor and comedian Russell Brand appeared in court on Tuesday for a plea hearing over new charges of rape and sexual assault brought against him in December 2025. Wearing a leopard-print shirt, Brand pleaded not guilty at Southwark Crown Court in London to two charges, including one of rape, related to alleged incidents that occurred nearly twenty years ago.
The new charges involve two additional women, adding to four women connected to earlier allegations from April 2025. In those prior charges, Brand faced one count of rape, one count of oral rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault, all allegedly occurring around two decades ago. Authorities said the investigation began in 2023 following reports from media outlets, which prompted multiple allegations against the actor. Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi noted that all women who have come forward, including those tied to the latest charges, continue to receive support from specially trained officers. Brand previously pleaded not guilty to the initial charges and is scheduled for trial in June. In a social media statement responding to the earlier accusations, Brand denied engaging in nonconsensual activity while acknowledging past struggles with drugs and sex addiction, and he expressed gratitude to supporters. Outside of acting and comedy, Brand has worked as a political commentator and wellness influencer. He was married to singer Katy Perry from 2010 to 2012 and has been married to Laura Gallacher since 2017; the couple has three children.
