 Kenyan lawyers boycott courts over alleged judicial corruption Kenyan lawyers staged a nationwide boycott of court proceedings on Wednesday to protest alleged judicial corruption and chronic delays. Cases in the East African nation take an average of two years to conclude, according to official records, with lawyers blaming graft and systemic inefficiencies. "The court boycott is going on in courts across the country, with many lawyers heeding the call," Charles Kanjama, the president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), told reporters. However, the judiciary said that accountability mechanisms already exist through the Judicial Service Commission and the Office of the Judiciary Ombudsman, where complaints against judges and judicial officers can be lodged and investigated, according to a statement released prior to the boycott. POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER/ARMED ROBBER; RECOVERS TWO (2) AK-47 RIFLES, ONE (1) BERETTA PISTOL AND SIXTY-NINE (69) ROUNDS OF LIVE AMMUNITION


The Delta State Police Command has recorded further breakthroughs in ongoing intelligence-led operations targeting kidnapping, armed robbery, and illegal arms proliferation across the State.


1. ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER/ARMED ROBBER; RECOVERY OF ONE (1) AK-47 RIFLE AND SIXTY-THREE (63) ROUNDS OF LIVE AMMUNITION


On 29 April 2026 at about 2010 hours, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Shehu Malami (male, 45 years) at Ogor Market, Ughelli. The suspect later led operatives to his hideout in Agbarha-Otor, where one (1) AK-47 rifle and sixty-three (63) rounds of live ammunition were recovered. Preliminary Investigation revealed that the suspect is part of a kidnapping syndicate terrorizing, Ughelli, Agbarho, Sapele, Warri and other areas in the State. Effort to arrest other members of his gang is ongoing.


2. RECOVERY OF ONE (1) AK-47 RIFLE, ONE (1) BERETTA PISTOL AND SIX (6) ROUNDS OF LIVE AMMUNITION


On 02 May 2026 at about 0835 hours,  the Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations,  acting on credible intelligence, mobilised and led operatives of Buffalo, Crack, and Operation Delta Shield (ODS) squads to a bush near the Customs Check Point along Benin–Asaba Expressway. A search of the area led to the recovery of one (1) AK-47 rifle, six (6) rounds of live ammunition, and one (1) Beretta pistol. Investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to arrest the suspects.


The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the tempo against criminal elements. He also urged residents to monitor, and report suspicious persons or movement in their environment promptly to the Police, while assuring them that their identities will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
