 Rebels to withdraw from key DR Congo town 'after US request' The M23 rebel group has said it would withdraw from the eastern DR Congo town of Uvira at the request of the US administration, which had criticised seizure of the town last week as a threat to mediation efforts. The rebels entered Uvira, on the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met with US President Donald Trump in Washington and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept." A report by a United Nations group of experts in July said Rwanda exercised command and control over the rebels.      Vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has paid a condolence visit to Pa Reuben Fasoranti whose daughter, Funke Olakunrin was killed. The daughter of the leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, was killed while travelling on Friday, July 12.The vice president on Sunday, July 14 paid a condolence visit to the Afenifere leader at his house in Ondo state. Osinbajo also extended his condolence to Idowu Olakunrin, the widower.He prayed that God would comfort the families of the deceased. The vice president also said the federal government would deploy soldiers to highways to increase security and protect travellers.Earlier media report stats that Funke was shot on Friday, July 12. Sources said she was coming from Lagos when her vehicle was attacked by kidnappers in Ore in Ondo state. A source confirmed the tragic incident. He said the kidnappers also engage in armed robbery. The police said three vehicles were attacked by the kidnappers and that one of the passengers, Gerald Igboroka was yet to be found by the police.More photos below.
